Biosphere Reserves India
Indulge in the wildlife of India
India is the only country where we can find every kind of climatic and biogeographic conditions. Right from the cold mountainous snow regions of Ladakh to the Gangetic and Brahmaputra plains and the Thar Desert of Rajasthan, each place has its own significance as far as flora and fauna is concerned. The major centers of biodiversity in India are Agasthyamalai Hills, Silent Valley, Amambalam Reserve and some other states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, in South India where natural beauty is in abundance.
There are many threats to this biodiversity that is there in India. For the protection of flora and fauna, the government has developed several biosphere reserves in India. These reserves are basically divided into three parts i.e. core zone where no human activity is allowed, buffer zone where Limited human activity is allowed for the purpose of research and education and transition zone which is the outermost part and this is the place where human interference and settlements are allowed. At present, India is having 13 reserves of this kind from the highest peaks of the country in Himalayan range to the southernmost tip.
The things that make India such a wonderful place for those who enjoy being in nature and studying the natural habitat of the various plants and animals is that India is the home to 350 species of mammals, 1200 species of birds, 453 species of reptiles, 182 species of amphibians and 14,500 species of angiosperms. The amazing fact behind this data is that India is not one of the largest countries of the world and then also so much diversity is present.
